About Us

Originally a division of Northamptonshire School of Flying Ltd, and until 2005 located at Sywell, we have been maintaining all types of aircraft for over sixty years. We are specialists in metal, wood and fabric types.

Since October 2007, the business has traded as J & J Aircraft Services.

Our combined experience in all aspects of engineering, aircraft sales and customer care ensures that we are able to offer you a first class service. All key members of staff are experienced pilots in their own right.

Jason Kettlewell – Chief Engineer

Jason has been in aviation for virtually all of his working life. He gained his Private Pilot’s Licence at the age of 18, achieved his Aeronautical Maintenance Certificate at the age of 19, his engineering licence at 21 and his Commercial Pilot’s Licence at 24. He spent 2 ½ years with a large commercial airline as first officer, and held his instructor’s rating for 7 years. He has been involved in aircraft maintenance for over 10 years, with various companies, and has been our Chief Engineer since 2004.

Jack Coe – Engineer

Jack’s involvement with aviation began in 1984, and he has been with us, both here and previously at Sywell, since 1986. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience, covering both metal aircraft and wooden aircraft. He has extensive expertise in aircraft restoration, fabric and resprays. He has rebuilt Pitts Specials, and the Piper Cub and Tiger Moth currently operated by Sibson School Of Flying. Jack gained his PPL in 1985.

Roger Kimbell – Managing Director

Roger purchased Northamptonshire School Of Flying in 1999. He had previously successfully run a number of companies. Having moved the school from Sywell to Sibson in 2005, he sold the flying training division two years later, in order to concentrate on the aircraft maintenance side of the business. He has been a PPL for many years and has always had a keen interest in aviation.

Paul Sumpter – Accounts & Administration

Following almost 20 years working for a high street bank, Paul joined Northamptonshire School Of Flying in early 2000. Since 2007, in addition to dealing with all aspects of the company’s accounts, he has become much more involved in the general administration of the business.
